Softball Sweeps Lebanon Valley

Annville, Pa. (March 23, 2019) - Alvernia University (9-7, 2-0) opened up its MAC Commonwealth schedule with a sweep of Lebanon Valley College (6-8, 2-2) on Saturday at Lebanon Valley.

The Golden Wolves took game one with a 5-3 win and took game two with a 5-2 decision.

Alvernia opened the scoring in the top of the first with a Sarah Bystrycki single to drive in Sarah Reinert, who reached on a single to lead off the game.

The Golden Wolves went up 2-0 in the top of the second with Hope Robinson hitting a hard grounder down the right field line for a double to drive in Alyssa Acker.

Alvernia broke open the scoring in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Morgan Psiuk reached on an error to score Robinson. Bystrycki then drove in two runs with a single to left to put Alvernia up 5-0.

The Dutchmen threatened in the bottom of the seventh after scoring runs on back-to-back singles with two out. Alvernia's defense, behind pitcher Riley
Shields, got out of a bases loaded situation by forcing a fly-out to center field to end the game.

Shields allowed six hits and struck out three for the complete game win.

Bystrycki led Alvernia's offense with a 2-for-4 effort and three RBIs.

In game two, Alvernia fell behind 1-0 after the dutchmen scored on an RBI double to the right field gap in the bottom of the first.

The Golden Wolves tied it up in the top of the second after Shields scored on a Hope Robinson double to center field.

Alvernia broke the tie with a three run top of the fifth. With two on and one out, Bystrycki hit a double down the left field line to score Analise Fouracre.
JoAnnah Lim then traded places with a Bystrycki, hitting a double to center field to score Reinert and Bystrycki.

Alvernia added one more in the top of the seventh after Reinert scored on a wild pitch.

Alvernia allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but retired the final two batters to complete the sweep.

Ally Decker took the complete game win, allowing seven hits and striking out one.

Lim led Alvernia's offense in game two with two RBIs. Reinert went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Alvernia has a quick turnaround and will open its home schedule on Sunday against Penn State Berks.
