Golden Wolves Sweep Mustangs

Lim Goes Perfect 6-for-6 At The Plate

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 27, 2019) - Alvernia University (13-7, 4-0) swept Stevenson University (6-9, 1-3) with a set of 4-2 and 8-0 wins to improve to 4-0 in MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday evening at Alvernia.

After trailing 2-0 in game one, Alvernia had a big four-run bottom of the sixth to take the 4-2 win. The Golden Wolves used another big inning in the fifth inning of game two to seal the 8-0 shutout.

In game one of the afternoon, the Mustangs took an early 1-0 lead after an errant throw to first allowed a run to score.

Stevenson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third with a run scoring on a sacrifice fly to center.

After being held scoreless for the first five innings, Alvernia got things going in the bottom of the sixth. Morgan Psiuk led the rally off with a single to right and reached third on the play after the right fielder misplayed the ball. JoAnnah Lim drove Psiuk home two batters later with a single to center. With two on and one out, Emily Carmella drilled a ball down the right field line to clear the bases and give Alvernia the 3-2 win. Hope Robinson added an insurance run with a single through the right side to score Celena Militello, who was pinch running for Carmella, to give Alvernia the 4-2 lead.

The Golden Wolves, behind pitcher Riley Shields, retired the side in the top of the seventh to take the 4-2 lead.

Shields went the distance for Alvernia in the circle, striking out a season-high six batters and allowing seven hits.

Lim led Alvernia's offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in one run and scoring a run. Robinson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Carmella went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

In game two of the evening, the Golden Wolves struck first with Riley Shields singling to left field to drive in Sarah Bystrycki, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.

Alvernia added its second run of the game in the bottom of the third with Lim doubling to left field to drive in Psiuk, who reached on a double to the right game to lead off the inning.

The Golden Wolves offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on seven hits. Sarah Reinert started Alvernia off with a single to left, and Psiuk followed with her second double of the game to bring Reinert home. Bystrycki followed with a single to center to bring in Psiuk. Shields drove in the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center. Carmella then doubled to center to drive in Lim, and Acker drove Carmella home with a single to left to make it 7-0. Analise Fouracre drove in the game-ending run with a hit back at the pitcher to drive in Acker and seal the 8-0 win.

Ally Decker pitched all five for Alvernia with a career-high five strikeouts to pick up her seventh win of her freshman campaign. She allowed just three hits en route to the shutout.

Lim was again a perfect 3-for-3 to finish 6-for-6 on the day. She finished game two with a run scored and an RBI. Shields finished with two RBIs, and Psiuk finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Golden Wolves take a break from their MAC Commonwealth schedule and will face Immaculata on the road on Thursday.
