Golden Wolves Drop Two In Florida

Clermont, Fl. (Mar. 5, 2019) - Alvernia University (5-3) fell to Wartburg College (5-1) and RPI (5-2) on its third day at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

In their first game of the day, Alvernia fell to Wartburg 16-2 in five innings.

The Knights started off with a four-run top of the first and never looked back.

The Golden Wolves got one back in their half of the first with a Sarah Bystrycki hit back at the pitcher. Sarah Reinert advanced to third on the play, and then scored on a throwing error by the pitcher.

Alvernia continued to chip away at Wartburg's lead with Emily Carmella scoring on a throwing error to make it 4-2.

The Knights blew it open with a five-run top of the third, and added another five runs in the top of the fourth.

The Golden Wolves would not score again, as the Knights scored an additional two in the top of the fifth to make it a 16-2 final.

Alvernia was held to just four hits on the game, with Bystrycki leading the way with two hits, including a double.

Four Alvernia pitchers made an appearance on the mound, with Riley Shields picking up the loss.

Alvernia's struggles continued in game two against RPI as the Golden Wolves fell to RPI 9-1 in six innings.

The Engineers struck first with a two-run bottom of the second, with runs coming off a groundout to second and a single down the left field line.

The Golden Wolves got one back in the top of third with Morgan Psiuk driving in Analise Fouracre with a single through the right side.

Alvernia went scoreless the rest of the way as RPI added two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth to end it at 9-1.

Ally Decker went five innings for Alvernia, striking out four. Nicole August came in for relief and allowed three hits and struck out one.

Psiuk led Alvernia's offensive efforts in game two, with two hits and Alvernia's lone RBI.

The Golden Wolves have off tomorrow and will resume on Thursday with games against DeSales University and Misericordia University.
