BOX SCORE 2 Clermont, Fl. (Mar. 7, 2019) - Alvernia University (6-4) split its fourth day in Florida with a 4-3 win over DeSales University (4-5) and a 3-2 loss against Misericordia University (6-2).
In Alvernia's first game of the day against DeSales, Alvernia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single to drive in
Sarah Reinert.
The Golden Wolves added three more in the top of the third, with RBI singles coming from
Jocelyn Flores,
Hope Robinson, and Reinert.
The Bulldogs got two back in the bottom of the fifth and made it 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh. With the game-tying run at the plate, Alvernia forced a groundout to second to end the game.
Riley Shields went 3-for-3 at the plate and
Jocelyn Flores went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead Alvernia's offense.
Ally Decker allowed eight hits and struck out three to earn the complete game win.
In game two of the day, the Golden Wolves trailed early after giving up a run in the top of the first.
Alvernia chipped away and tied it up in the bottom of the fourth with a
Sarah Bystrycki triple to the right field corner that drove in
JoAnnah Lim.
Alvernia broke the tie and took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Shields hit a groundout to shortstop, driving in Lim.
The Cougars came back and responded in the top of the seventh. Misericordia's Megan Murphy reached on a hit to first base in the first at bat of the inning, and advanced to third on a double by Ciarra DeLong in the second at bat of the inning. Murphy than scored on a passed ball to tie it up at 2-2. DeLong than scored to make it 3-2 on a single through the right side by Amanda Butera.
The Cougars retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to take the 3-2 win.
Bystrycki led Alvernia's offense against Misericoridia with two hits and an RBI.
Shields went the distance, striking out five, in the loss.
Alvernia closes out its week in Florida on Friday with a 9:15 AM game against Moravian and an 11:15 AM game against the University of Northwestern (MN).
