Reading, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2019) - Alvernia University (14-8-1) was unable to overcome a 3-0 deficit and fell to Keystone College (5-7) 5-3 in non-conference baseball action on Monday evening at Alvernia.
The Giants jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, and added a run with a solo shot to left field to go up 3-0.
Alvernia got one back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to right center to drive in
Nathan Sides.
The Golden Wolves got within one in the bottom of the seventh when
Grant Hackett came home on a bunt attempt by
Gavin Blankenbiller.
Keystone retook a three run lead with a two-run top of the eight when Alvernia miscues kept the Golden Wolves from getting out of the inning and allowed the Giants to go up 5-2.
Alvernia got back within two when Sides scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a triple to the left gap.
Alvernia was retired in order in the top of the ninth as the Golden Wolves fell 5-3.
Tim Carfery went seven innings, giving up one earned run and striking out six in the loss.
Sides went a perfect four-for-four, scoring two runs to lead the offense.
Alvernia continues its non-conference schedule on Wednesday when they host Susquehanna at 4:00 PM.
