Grantham, Pa. (Apr. 13, 2019) - Messiah College (4-10, 4-1) held Alvernia University (4-9, 1-4) to just two second half goals as the Falcons earned a 21-9 win over Alvernia on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at Messiah.
The Falcons opened up the scoring with two goals in the first four minutes to go up 2-0.
Alvernia cut the deficit to one with
Brittany Defibaugh scoring Alvernia's first goal of the afternoon with 25:43 left in the first half.
The Falcons extended their lead back up to two with a goal two minutes later, but Alvernia cut it back down to one with a goal by
Alexis Iswalt.
Messiah would score nine of the final 14 goals of the first half to go into the break with a 12-7 lead.
The Falcons scored eight straight goals to open the second half and go up 20-7.
The Golden Wolves scored two quick goals in the final six minutes, but Messiah took the final goal of the game and the 21-9 victory.
Katharine Giannaras played the first half and made eight saves in the loss.
Erika Whitmoyer and Defibaugh finished with three goals each to lead Alvernia's offensive efforts.
Alvernia continues its MAC Commonwealth schedule on the road on Wednesday at Lebanon Valley College.
