Bethlehem, Pa. (Apr. 17, 2019) - Alvernia University (20-10-2) and Moravian College (14-15-1) played to a 14-14 draw in a game that was called after six innings due to darkness on Wednesday evening in non-conference baseball action at Moravian.
The two teams combined for 28 hits and 12 pitchers on the shortened game.
Alvernia took an early 1-0 lead on a sac fly by
Matt Briner, but the Greyhounds responded with a three run bottom of the first to take the 3-1 lead.
Moravian then jumped out to a 8-1 lead with a five run bottom of the second.
The Golden Wolves got four runs back in the top of the third with four bases loaded walks to cut the Greyhound's lead down to 8-5.
Alvernia then tied it up at 8-8 with a three run top of the fourth.
Colin Rieger got Alvernia started with a sac fly to left field to score

Alex Salesky then doubled down the left field line to score
Nathan Sides, and
Nick Nutile capped off the inning with a single to center to drive in Salesky.
The Golden Wolves then jumped out to an 11-8 lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer by Sides and an RBI single by Rieger.
Alvernia's lead didn't last long as the Greyhounds plated five in the bottom of the fifth to go up 13-11.
In what would be the final frame in the sixth, Alvernia scored three, including two runs on a throwing error, to retake the 14-13 lead.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Moravian tied it up at 14-14 on a single to right.
The game would then be called for darkness in a 14-14 tie.
Sides led Alvernia's offense with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Sides now sits at 258 career hits, just one hit shy of Eric Bonds'
career record of 259, which was set between 2003-2006.
Alvernia has a quick turnaround and will return to the field on Thursday in the MAC Commonwealth series opener against Stevenson at 3:30 PM.
