Reading, Pa. (Apr. 24, 2019) - After leading 5-1 early, Alvernia University (4-11, 1-6) fell to Lycoming College (4-11, 2-5) 16-15 on Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

Alvernia jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, with Brittany Defibaugh and Rachel Judge scoring two goals each and Gianna Taffo adding the fifth.

The Warriors took advantage and went on a 5-0 run over the next five minutes to jump out to a 6-5 lead.

Alvernia tied it up at 6-6 and then regained the lead on a man-up goal by Judge to make it 7-6.

The Golden Wolves and Warriors traded goals to close out the half in a 9-9 tie.

Alvernia opened the scoring in the second half with a goal from Erika Whitmoyer to put Alvernia up 10-9.

The Warriors responded with two straight goals to go up 11-10, but Alvernia tied it back up at 11-11 with a goal by Madison Hengey.

Lycoming would again go on a quick scoring run with three goals, including two man-up goals, over the next three minutes to jump out to a 14-11 lead.

Alvernia chipped away at the Warrior's lead and came within one at 15-14 with a goal by Whitmoyer with 8:15 remaining in the game.

The Warriors scored with 6:33 left to go back up by two, but Alvernia again got back within one with another goal by Whitmoyer.

The Golden Wolves got off four shots with under 2:30 left in the game, including two shots that went off the post, but they could not convert.

The Warriors regained position with 1:20 left in the game and ran out the possession clock to take the 16-15 win.

Katharine Giannaras made 13 saves on the night in the loss.

Whitmoyer led Alvernia's offensive with six goals and an assist. Judge and Defibaugh each finished with three goals.
