Owings Mill, Md. (Apr. 3, 2019) - Stevenson University (7-3, 2-0) jumped out to a 7-0 lead en route to a 15-5 win over Alvernia University (3-8, 0-3) in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening at Stevenson.

The Mustangs struck first after four minutes of action and scored seven straight to take the 7-0  lead with eight minutes left in the first half.

Alvernia ended Stevenson's scoring streak with a man-up goal by Gianna Taffo with 6:47 left in the first half.

The Mustangs added one a minute later to go up 8-1, but Alvernia cut its deficit back down to six with a goal from Brittany Defibaugh with just under four minutes remaining in the half.

The Mustangs scored two more to close out the half and take a 10-2 lead into the break.

The Golden Wolves opened the scoring with a goal from Rachel Judge with 24:53 remaining, but the Mustangs rattled off four straight to go up 14-3 with 17:05 left in the game.

Alvernia would score two of the final three goals of the game as the Golden Wolves fell 15-5.

Katharine Giannaris made 15 saves over 60 minutes of action.

Taffo and Defibaugh finished with two goals each. Defibaugh also finished with an assist.

Alvernia continues with its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Saturday with a home game against Arcadia.
