Alvernia Downs Arcadia In Overtime

Judge Scores Game-Tying Goal and Golden Goal For Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2019) - Rachel Judge scored a goal as time expired in regulation and then scored the golden-goal in overtime to lift Alvernia University (4-8, 1-3) to a 15-14 win over Arcadia University (1-9, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves trailed 4-1 early, but the Golden Wolves chipped away and tied it up at 5-5 on Judge's first goal of the game with 7:45 left in the first half.

The Knights and Golden Wolves traded goals over the next seven minutes and went into the half tied at 7-7.

The Knights struck first coming out of the break, but Alvernia tied it back up at 8-8 on a Brittany Defibaugh goal with 27:34 left in regulation.

Arcadia would score three goals over the next ten minutes to jump out to an 11-8 lead, but the Golden Wolves got back within one with goals from Defibaugh and
Gianna Taffo to make it 11-10 15:42 remaining.

The Knights and Golden Wolves traded the next two goals before the Knights scored two quick goals to jump back out to a three goal lead.

Alvernia held the Knights scoreless over the final ten minutes while scoring three of their own, including a goal as time expired, to tie it up at 14-14 and force the game into overtime.

Alvernia needed just one shot in the overtime period to score. Following a turnover by the Knights, the Golden Wolves worked the ball down the field and Erika
Whitmoyer connected with Judge to give Alvernia the 15-14 win.

Defibaugh led Alvernia's offensive efforts with five goals, and Whitmoyer finished with three goals and four assists. Judge finished with three goals, including the game-winner.
