Reading, Pa. (Apr. 8, 2019) - Alvernia University (20-9-1) swept Rutgers-Camden University (6-11) on Monday in non-conference softball action at Alvernia's Angelica Park.
Alvernia took game one 5-1 and shutout the Scarlet Raptors in game two, 2-0.
Sarah Reinert drove in the first two runs of game one in the bottom of the fourth when she hit a double down the left field line to bring in
Nicole August and
Ally Decker.
Sarah Bystrycki then doubled down the left field line two at-bats later to score Reinert and put Alvernia up 3-0.
The Golden Wolves went up 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with Reinert brining in Decker on a bases loaded walk and
Morgan Psiuk reaching on a fielding error, allowing August to score.
The Raptors got one back in the top of the seventh with a one-out single through the left side, but Alvernia retired the next two batters to get the 5-1 win.
Shields earned the complete game victory in the circle, striking out two and allowing six hits.
Psiuk and August led Alvernia with two hits each, and Reinert went one-for-two with three RBIs.
In game two of the evening, Alvernia struck early with
JoAnnah Lim driving in Bystrycki with a double to left field.
Alvernia added just one more run on the game, with August hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Lim and put Alvernia up 2-0 after six.
Kealey Smith picked up her first collegiate win with seven innings of work. The freshman struck out three, waked one, and allowed five hits in her first career start.
Lim went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead Alvernia's game two offensive efforts.
Alvernia resumes its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Widener.
