Haverford, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2019) - After trailing 1-0, Haverford University (2-0) scored four straight goals en route to a 4-2 win over Alvernia University (1-1) on Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Haverford.
Alvernia wasted no time getting on the board, with
Felicia Getz converting a corner attempt just 54 seconds into the game.
13 minutes later, Haverford evened things up with a put-back goal from Rachel Gordon. The Fords then took a 2-1 lead 26th minute after another goal off of a save from Anna Kirn.
Haverford went up 3-1 when Roxy Vassighi got a ball by
Emma Beamesderfer who made a diving attempt to stop it.
The Fords extended their lead to 4-1 when Kirn scored her second of the day in the 41st minute.
The two teams went scoreless over the next 17 minutes until
Emily Hart found
Morgan Mondschein off the left post to cut Haverford's lead down to 4-2.
The Golden Wolves would not get another shot off as Haverford went on to take the 4-2 win.
Getz and Mondschein scored a goal a piece for Alvernia, and Beamesderfer finished with five saves.
Alvernia returns home on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM when the Golden Wolves host Misericordia University.
