Morgan Mondschein scored two goals to lead Alvernia University (2-1) to a 2-0 lead over Misericordia University (2-1) in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday night at Alvernia.
Mondschein scored goals in the first and third quarters for the Golden Wolves. Alvernia has scored six total goals on the season, and five of them have come from Mondschein.Â
The first goal of the evening game just over ten minutes into the game when freshman
Felicia Getz found Mondschein, who lifted a shot over the goalie and into the net to put Alvernia up 1-0.
Both teams would go scoreless over the next 22 minutes until freshman
Rachael Beemer was able to gain control over the ball in a scrum and find Mondschein on the left side of the goal. Mondschein was able to get a shot off from her knees to make it 2-0.
The Cougars nearly made it 2-1 just a few minutes later on a man-up corner opportunity, but
Madison Potthoff made a defensive save to maintain Alvernia's two goal advantage.
The Cougars would not get a shot off the rest of the way.
Senior
Emma Beamesderfer played all 60 minutes in net for Alvernia, making two saves.
The Golden Wolves return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Lynchburg at 1:00 PM.
