Gettysburg, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2019) - Gettysburg University (3-2) scored nine minutes into the first overtime period to break a 2-2 tie and earn a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (3-2) in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday evening at Gettysburg.
After the game was delayed about an hour due to storms in the area, the Bullets scored back-to-back goals in a just over a minute to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Less than a minute later,
Felicia Getz got Alvernia on the board when she connected with
Madison Potthoff off the left post.
The game would go nearly 45 minutes without a goal before Alvernia's
McKenzy Lilliock scored for the Golden Wolves as regulation time was coming to an end to force overtime. Getz found Lillock after a scramble, and Lilliock was able to get a shot off to tie it up at 2-2.
Eight and a half minutes into the overtime period, the Bullets got by
Emma Beamesderfer on a quick tap in goal to break the 2-2 and take the 3-2 win.
Lauren Beccaria led the Bullets with two goals.
Lilliock and Getz each finished with a goal for Alvernia, and were the only two players for the Golden Wolves to get a shot on goal.
Emma Beamesderfer finished the game with two saves.
