Reading, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2019) - The University of Scranton (4-1-1) scored the only goal of the game on a free kick in the 27th minute for a 1-0 win over Alvernia University (1-6-2) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.
The free kick was scored by Christian Arcos. He took the kick about 35 yards out just in front of the Alvernia bench and was able to drive it over
Ben Solsky into the top of the net.
Alvernia had a slim 6-5 advantage in shots with its best chance coming late in the second half.
Noah Wright sent a brilliant cross in front of the Scranton net to an uncovered J.P. Pierdomenico who had a one-touch shot from point blank range that knocked over Jakib Hodlofski, the Scranton keeper. The ball caromed down onto the goal line and was pushed back out by Hodlofski.
Alvernia will continue the non-conference schedule hosting Susquehanna on Wednesday.
