Glassboro, NJ (Sept. 25, 2019) - Rowan University (7-0) held Alvernia University (5-4) to just five shots, but scored just two goals in a 2-0 win over the Golden Wolves on Wednesday evening at Rowan.
The undefeated Profs are currently ranked second in the country, trailing only the 2018 Division III Champions, Middlebury College.
Rowan opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Casey Wagner took a hard shot from ten yards out that got by Alvernia keeper
Emma Beamesderfer.
Alvernia's defense held strong over the next 18 minutes, stopping nine shot attempts by the Profs.
With five seconds remaining in the half, the Profs were granted a penalty stroke opportunity and were able to convert to go up 2-0.
Alvernia's defense, behind Beamesderfer, stopped eight more shots in the second half to stay within reach, but only got off one shot opportunity of its own in the final 30 minutes.
Beamesderfer finished the night with 11 saves for the Golden Wolves.
Erica Groves finished the evening with two shots on goal.
Alvernia finishes off its six game road trip on Saturday with a 1:00 PM game against Messiah. Messiah is currently ranked 13th in the country, and will be the third team the Golden Wolves face during their road trip that is either nationally ranked or receiving votes.
