Owings Mills, Md. (Jan. 29, 2020) - Alvernia University (10-8, 6-4) scored 46 points in the second half en route to a 79 - 57 win over Stevenson University (5-14, 2-8) on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth play at Stevenson.
The Mustangs and Golden Wolves went back and forth much of the first half before Alvernia's
Justin Thomas hit a three as time was expiring to put Alvernia up 33-32 going into the half.
Coming out of the break, Alvernia looked like a completely different offense.
After the Mustangs opened the second half with 3-pointer to go up by two,
Mickeel Allen converted a layup to spark an eight-minute 26-5 run that was capped off by a 3-pointer from Thomas and a layup from Rece Harmon.
Alvernia would expand its lead to as much as 23 on two occasions.
Avery Walker hit a three with 11:02 remaining to put the Golden Wolves up 23, and Harmon knocked down a layup following a Stevenson jumper to put the Golden Wolves back up by 23 on their next possession.
The Golden Wolves would go on to coast to the 79-57 win.
Five players reached double digit scoring for Alvernia, with Walker and Allen leading the way with 14 points each.
Keon Taylor finished the night with a team-high 12 assists and six rebounds.
With the win, Alvernia now sits in a three way tie for second in the MAC Commonwealth at 6-4. The Golden Wolves are tied with Albright and Lycoming for the second seed with six games remaining.
Alvernia takes on Lebanon Valley on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
