Dutchmen Outlast Golden Wolves In Double Overtime, 87-83

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2020) - Lebanon Valley College () outscored Alvernia University () 14-10 in the second overtime en route to an 87-83 win over the Golden Wolves on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves trailed by nine entering the second half, but Alvernia went on a 15-3 run to erase the nine point deficit and take a three point lead. Avery Walker got the Golden Wolves started with two free made free throws and followed that with a dunk off of a steal on the next possession. Keon Taylor capped off the run with a layup from Walker with 16:19 to go in regulation.

The Golden Wolves and Dutchmen would trade the lead for much of the remainder of the second half.

With 50 seconds left in regulation, Lebanon Valley's Zach Taylor knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Dutchmen a three point advantage.

Alvernia came down the floor and Justin Thomas found Walker, who knocked down a three of his own to tie it back up at 64-64 with 29 seconds remaining.

With the shot clock off, Luis Garcia attempted a 3-pointer that was blocked by Taylor. Collin Jones picked up the rebound for the Dutchmen and attempted a 3-pointer shot from the corner, but was off the mark, sending the game into overtime.

In the first overtime, Steve Pierce kept the Golden Wolves alive, scoring all nine of Alvernia's points to get the Golden Wolves to the second overtime.

In the second overtime, Alvernia would be unable to hang with the Dutchmen, who took advantage of Alvernia fouls. The Dutchmen scored 14 in the second overtime, nine of which came on successful free throw attempts.

Thomas led Alvernia with 22 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks. Zach Taylor led all scorers with 30 points.

With the loss, Alvernia falls to fourth in the MAC Commonwealth. The Golden Wolves sit behind Widener, Lycoming, and Albright.
