Reading, Pa. (Jan. 8, 2020) - Stevenson University (5-8, 1-4) ran out to a 22-14 lead after the first quarter on its way to a 76-53 win over Alvernia University (6-7, 1-4) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Mustangs held a 15-14 lead with 1:46 left in the first half and finished with seven straight points to take an 8-point lead. Alvernia closed the gap back down to six points midway through the second quarter, but Stevenson once again finished strong with seven of the last nine points to take a 35-24 lead at the halftime break.
Neither team shot particularly well in the first half. Stevenson shot 35 percent from the floor while Alvernia managed just 28 percent.
Stevenson built on its lead winning the third quarter 17-10 and added 24 more in the fourth.
Abbie Zerbe led the Wolves with 15 points. Stevenson put three players in double figures led by Hannah Crist and Brandi Hall with 16 points apiece.
Alvernia continues the regular season at Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
