Alvernia Outlasts Lebanon Valley, 78-73, In Overtime

Kramer Notches Big Double-Double With 20 And 13

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2020) - Gabriella De Vito hit a pair of 3s in overtime and Dee McCormick added another as Alvernia University (8-11, 3-8) defeated Lebanon Valley College (7-12, 2-8) 78-73 Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

"The girls are resilient," said Alvernia head coach Rayne Reber.  "We have finally gotten over that hump where we get down on ourselves and think that we're not capable of doing something.  Our girls have realized that we're here to compete and we can win games."

Cathryn Kramer had a huge game for the Golden Wolves posting game-highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  De Vito and McCormick combined to shoot 9-for-20 from the arc and both finished with 18 points.

"I'm really happy with how hard our girls played, and how much production we got out of our freshmen, Dee McCormick and Cat Kramer," said Reber.  "We see it every day in practice, they are able to score the ball and play really good defense, so for them to step up in such a big game is huge for us."

Alvernia trailed by seven points, 62-55 with four minutes to play.  The Wolves ran off nine straight points to reclaim the lead, but Lebanon Valley got a game-tying 3 pointer from Emily Mealy with nine seconds left to force overtime.

McCormick hit a 3 to open the overtime period and Alvernia went 3-for-5 from the arc and 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the extra period.  Julia Ewen hit two free throws with 21 seconds left to extend Alvernia's lead to three points, 74-71, and McCormick hit two more with seven seconds left to seal the win.

Alvernia is scheduled for a non-conference game at Valley Forge on Monday then back to the league schedule on Wednesday at Arcadia.
