Frederick, Md. (Feb. 8, 2020) - After leading 56-53 with just over three minutes remaining, Hood College (5-16, 1-11) went on a 16-5 run to defeat Alvernia University (9-13, 3-10) 69-61 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Hood College.
The Blazers led by as much as ten, 18-8, with 90 seconds remaining in the first quarter, but Alvernia closed out the quarter with a layup from
Torie Zerbe and a free throw from
Amber Orban to cut the deficit down to seven.
The Golden Wolves then went on a 9-0 run to open the second quarter and took the lead off a
Gabriella De Vito 3-pointer to go up 20-19.
The Blazers retook the lead on three straight free throws from Mia Savoy on their next possession and held a one point lead going into the half.
Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter, with the Blazers holding an 11-9 advantage in the quarter to remain up 43-40.

Dee McCormick knocked down a three two minutes into the fourth to tie it up 43-43
After the Blazers knocked down back-to-back jumpers, De Vito tied it back up for the Golden Wolves with a 3-pointer.
The Golden Wolves built their lead up to five, 52-47, following a jumper from
Julia Ewen and a 3-pointer from
Abbie Zerbe.
After Ewen knocked down a pair of free throws to go up 56-53, the Blazers closed out the game on a 16-5 run to take the 69-61 win.
For the second time in a week, Ewen reached the 20 rebound mark, bringing in 22 on Saturday. She finished the afternoon with a double-double with 15 points. De Vito led Alvernia's offensive efforts with 21 points.
Alvernia continues its road trip on Wednesday night at Lycoming.
