Softball Splits On Thursday

Clermont, Florida (March 5, 2020) - Alvernia University (7-3) split its doubleheader on Thursday with a 5-0 win over Saint Mary's of Minnesota (4-4) and a 4-0 loss to Bridgewater (9-3) in the fourth day of spring break games for the Golden Wolves.

The Golden Wolves started their day against Saint Mary's, and Alvernia got to work in the first inning. Sarah Reinert walked to lead off the game, and stole second in the next at-bat. She was then driven in by Riley Shields on a double to put Alvernia up 1-0.

Alvernia then plated three in the third, with Shields getting things started by scoring on a passed ball. Analise Fouracre then doubled to bring in Devan Hudson and Kerstin Koenig to put Alvernia up 4-0.

Fouracre then added a run for the Golden Wolves in the fifth on a Saint Mary's fielding error during Koenig's at-bat.

Alvernia then added its six and final run of the game on Shields' second double of the game, which again drove in Reinert.

Shields led Alvernia's offense in game one with three hits and two RBIs.

In game two of the afternoon, Bridgewater took advantage of a sloppy defensive third inning for the Golden Wolves, plating four runs on the inning.

The Eagles would not score the rest of the way, and only had two more batters reach base the rest of the game, but Alvernia could not string anything together on offense.

The Golden Wolves left six on base in game two. Alvernia was held to just five hits and never got closer than second base.

JoAnnah Lim led Alvernia's offense with two hits.

Riley Shields got the start for Alvernia and struck out three. Emma Kropkowski came in as relief sixth and struck out two.

Alvernia closes out its trip to Florida tomorrow with games against Plymouth State and Roger Williams.
