Last Second Golden Goal Lifts Alvernia Over Rosemont, 4-3

Wunderlich Scores With 21 Seconds Left In 2nd OT

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 16, 2021) - Gabe Wunderlich scored a golden goal with just 21 seconds left in the second overtime period to lift Alvernia University (10-3) to a 4-3 win over Rosemont College (8-4) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.

In a game that spanned a 50 minute weather delay and 109:39 of game time, Wunderlich secured the 4-3 win to give Alvernia its tenth win of the season with just 21 seconds to spare.

The game started off fast, with Rosemont's Kaiden Fields getting a shot by Ben Solsky in just the third minute.

Alvernia wasted no time with Wunderlich connecting with Braden Kreider less than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1.

34 minutes later Rosemont retook its lead with Fields striking for the second time to give ther Ravens the 2-1 advantage.

Rosemont held the 2-1 lead going into the half.

Six minutes into the second half, a goal by Ryan Cogill off a quick pass from Kreider tied the game up at 2-2.

Then, in the 59th minute, Alvernia took its first lead of the game when Kreider scored his second of the game off an assist from Ryan Kuster.

Alvernia's lead did not last long as Rosemont tied it up at 3-3 on a goal from Alex Arriola in the 65th minute.

With just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation, a storm rolled into the area forcing a 50 minute weather delay.

Coming out of the delay, Rosemont fired the first shot. The attempt sailed high to keep it at a 3-3 tie.

Alvernia's Matt Knowles had an opportunity to put Alvernia back in front in the 83rd minute, but Rosemont's keeper made his first save of the afternoon to keep the tie intact.

Nate Nimo, who took over for Solsky in the second half, made a save on a shot by the Ravens in the 87th minute.

With the game locked at 3-3, Rosemont and Alvernia entered overtime.

The Golden Wolves did not get a shot off in the first overtime period. Rosemont got one off on goal, but Nimo made the save to force the second overtime.

The Ravens fired off the first two shots of the final overtime, but Nimo made his eighth and ninth saves of the afternoon to keep Alvernia alive.

With time quickly running down, Alvernia pushed down the field. Alvernia's Ryan Kuster had the ball at the top of the box and tapped it over to Wunderlich. Wunderlich fired it past the keeper to secure the 4-3 win for the Golden Wolves.

Solsky finished the first half with one save and Nimo finished his 65 minutes with nine saves.

Alvernia returns to its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Tuesday hosting Lebanon Valley.
