Reading, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2021) - A successful penalty kick was all Penn State Berks (5-7-2) needed to better Alvernia University (3-11) in a 1-0 decision on Sunday evening in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.

Penn State Berks applied steady pressure from the start and maintained solid possession throughout the game.

A shot in the 4th minute was saved by Alvernia's Lily Sankey, but just over two minutes later Alvernia committed a foul in the box. Penn State Berks was awarded, and Emily Clapper took and converted the attempt to put Berks up 1-0. 

Alvernia was held shotless in the first half. The Golden Wolves were able to fire off two on goal in the second half, but were unable to convert. 

Penn State Berks finished the night with 12 total shots on goal, but Alvernia's Sankey and Brynn Bock were able to keep it a one score game the whole way.

Sankey finished with six saves and Bock finished with five.

Alvernia returns to action on Wednesday hosting Lebanon Valley in a MAC Commonwealth matchup.
