York, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2021) - York College (12-3, 5-1) allowed just one shot on goal while scoring four of its own in a 4-0 win over Alvernia University (6-9, 3-3) on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action at York. 

In the first meeting of York and Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth play, York outshot Alvernia 12-3 - including 8-1 in shots on net. 

Alvernia recorded the first shot of the night with Brooke Spezialetti having a shot blocked in the 4th minute.

The Spartans netted their first of the game two minutes later in an unassisted goal by Sam Collis to go up 1-0.

York extended its lead to 2-0 with a Collis' second of the night just 28 seconds into the second quarter. Alvenia did not get a shot off in the second frame, but was able to hold off York from adding to its lead to keep it at 2-0 going into the half. 

Just over a minute into the second half, York extended it to 3-0 on a goal by Hannah Hufman.

Alvernia's only shot on net came a minute later with Madison Potthoff sending one in. But, it was stopped by York keeper Kaitlyn Wallace to keep Alvernia off the board.

York added its fourth and final goal of the night in the 58th minute to seal the 4-0 win.

Hannah Wolfe and Lexi Boettcher shared time in net for Alvernia, combining for four saves. 

With the loss, the Golden Wolves now sit in fifth place overall in the MAC Commonwealth standings with two conference games left on the season. The MAC Commonwealth playoff consists of five teams. The Golden Wolves still have Albright College and Lebanon Valley College left on its MAC Commonwealth slate. Albright will come to Alvernia on Saturday evening in Alvernia's home finale.
