Reading, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2021) - Alvernia University (14-4, 6-2) capped off its regular season with a 3-0 win over Hood College (8-9-2, 1-7) on Saturday night in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action at Alvernia. 

The 3-0 win over Hood, Alvernia's sixth in MAC Commonwealth play, ties the most wins Alvernia has had in MAC Commonwealth play since joining the conference in 2009. Alvernia finished 6-1 in MAC Commonwealth play in 2011 and went on to finish runner-up in the conference. Alvernia fell to Messiah 4-1 in the Championship game after defeating Lebanon Valley College 2-1 in overtime in the semifinal round.

Alvernia netted its first of the night in the 21st minute on a Ryan Cogill goal with an assist coming from Justin Fetrow. 

The Golden Wolves doubled up on their lead in the 42nd minute on a goal by Matt Knowles that was assisted by Cameron Rowe.

Hood was held to just two shots in the first half as Alvernia went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Later in the second half, Kuster broke away and fired off a shot that ricocheted off the right post. Kuster picked up his own rebound and sent the ball into the back of the net on a put back goal to put Alvernia up 3-0 with just under 19 minutes remaining. 

The Golden Wolves held steady possession the rest of the way as they picked up their 11th shutout win of the season.  

Nate Nimo finished with four saves in his second consecutive start. Liam Abdalla finished the game out in net for Alvernia, playing the final eight minutes of the game.

The shutout is their fifth straight, tying the record of consecutive shutouts set back in 2004. 

Alvernia enters the MAC Commonwealth postseason as the #3 seed and the Golden Wolves will travel to #2 Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday. Alvernia lost to Lebanon Valley 1-0 in a heartbreaking loss back on October 19th.
