Immaculata Pa. (Nov. 13, 2021)- Alvernia University (3-2) fell to Immaculata University (2-3) in an 82-78 decision on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at Immaculata.

Immaculata opened the scoring with a quick layup to give the Mighty Macs a 2-0 lead. The layup was followed by two free throws, which were netted by Gregory Vlassopoulos.

Malik Green recorded the first basket of the game for the Golden Wolves, sinking a mid-range jumper. Green netted the next basket for Alvernia as well, as he knocked down another jumper.

Immaculata started to gain some momentum four minutes into the opening half, knocking down one free throw as well as a three. Green quickly answered with a three of his own to cut the deficit back down to one.

A layup from Tyler Tillery sparked an 8-0 run for the Mighty Macs giving them a nine-point lead.

Robert Mullan knocked down a three to help stop the bleeding and score the first bench points of the contest for the Golden Wolves.
The Mighty Macs quickly responded, going on a 7-0 run and taking a 13 point lead.

Another deep three from Green cut the deficit to ten for the Golden Wolves.
Jacob Stoudt got on the board, knocking down a jumper.

Mickeel Allen seemed to give Alvernia's offense life as he netted a pair of free throws. This spark was what Alvernia needed to get back into the contest, as
Keon Taylor finished a layup and a three from
Jakob Kelly cut the deficit to just three.

The rest of the half was neck and neck, with neither team able to gain control. With 2:33 left in the first half, Green knocked down a jumper that tied the match at 39. The Mighty Macs answered with a two of their own.

Despite Alvernia's effort, Immaculata went into the half with a slim two-point lead, 41-39.

The second half saw Immaculata extend its lead in the first 17 seconds. A three from
Jakob Kelly cut the deficit to just one. Kelly continued to push as he gave Alvernia its first lead of the contest off a jumper.

The Mighty Macs answered with a three of their own to snatch the lead back.

The Golden Wolves continued to push the pace, fighting back and forth. Taylor tallied nine straight points over the next three minutes as he gave Alvernia a three-point lead. A pair of free throws from Kelly gave the Golden Wolves their biggest lead of the night, 54-49.
Despite this strong effort, Immaculata hung in the game and was able to keep it close, with both teams trading the lead. It was not until there was just 7:12 left in the half that the Mighty Macs' offense found their stride.

Immaculata went on a 9-1 run with time winding down to take a 12-point lead with 4:01 remaining in the game.

Kelly and Green both led the Golden Wolves offense late, with Kelly scoring eight of the final ten for Alvernia.

The Mighty Macs were able to fend off the Golden Wolves late attack and down Alvernia, 82-78.
Â
Kelly led Alvernia with 25 points in 28 minutes. Green and Taylor both recorded double-digit figures with 19 and 10 points. Allen led the Golden Wolves with eight boards while Taylor picked up a team-high five assists.
