Wyomissing, Pa. (Dec. 3rd, 2021)- Utica College (7-2, 7-0) scored eight goals between the second and third period in an 8-2 win over Alvernia University (3-5-1, 2-2-1) in UCHC women's ice hockey action Friday night at Body Zone.
Alvernia's defense, led by Isabelle Hovel, held strong in the first period, facing 12 shots while not allowing a single goal.
The Pioneer's offense came to life in the second period, netting a goal in the first 1:09 of the stanza.
Utica built its lead, scoring five more goals in the second period - including three in just 17 seconds. The five goal burst was capped off by Hailey Modlin.
The Golden Wolves' offense got a nice jump-start in the third period, with Ionna Christou netting an unassisted goal with 18:05 left to play.
Despite this effort, the Pioneers were able to fend off Alvernia, while tallying two more goals in the third period. Utica finished the match with a six-goal lead, defeating the Golden Wolves, 8-2.
Alvernia returns to action tomorrow, hosting Utica College at Body Zone.
