Wyomissing, Pa. (Dec. 4th, 2021) - Utica College (8-2, 8-0) managed to hold Alvernia University (3-6-1, 2-3-1) scoreless en route to a 5-0 win Saturday afternoon in UCHC women's ice hockey at Body Zone.
The Alvernia defense, led by
Julia Beaven, started the contest strong, facing 22 shots in the first 13 minutes of the contest without allowing a goal.
The Pioneers' offense was finally able to sneak a shot past Beaven, which came off the stick of Alexa Carlon. Utica quickly extended its lead just three minutes later as Rebecca Brown netted a goal with 2:09 left in the opening stanza.
The second period saw the Pioneers quickly extend their lead, sneaking a shot past Beaven in the first 56 seconds of the stanza. Utica was able to grow the lead throughout the period, going into third with a 5-0 lead.
In the third period, the Golden Wolves' defense was able to regroup, holding the Pioneers' offense to just 12 shots throughout the period. Despite this effort, Utica was able to defeat Alvernia 5-0.
Beaven faced a total of 49 shots, recording 44 saves on the night.
The Golden Wolves have nearly a month off before returning to action on January 2
nd at home against Western New England University.
