Reading, Pa. (Dec. 8, 2021) - Albright College (5-3, 1-1) used a big second quarter to push past Alvernia University (3-5, 0-3) and ultimately take the 65-54 win over the Golden Wolves in MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball action on Wednesday night at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves held an 8-2 lead late in the first quarter, but the Lions tied it up at 14-14 going into the second quarter. Albright then scored 20 in the second frame to Alvernia's ten to take a 34-24 lead into the half. The Lion's did not give up the lead the rest of the way as they came away with the 65-54 win.

Alvernia opened the scoring with a quick driving layup by Cathryn Kramer to go up 2-0 after the opening possession. The Lions would take nearly two and a half minutes to post their first points and tie it up at 2-2.

Taliyah Malone answered Albright's layup with one of her own to put the Golden Wolves back ahead, 4-2 , with 7:00 left in the first quarter. A layup from Kayla Williams and two made free throws from Kramer extended Alvernia's lead to 8-2 with 3:32 to play in the first quarter.

The Lions quickly bounced back with a jumper from Kayana Chisholm and two free throws from Gabby Boggs to get within two, 8-6, with 2:50 left in the first.

A jumper from Tamia Wessels put Alvernia back up by four, 10-6, but a 3-pointer by Albright's Maggie O'Hare put Albright within one, 10-9, and two free throws by Gabby Boggs 30 seconds later put the Lions up by one, 11-10.

The Golden Wolves and Lions traded baskets the rest of the quarter and took it into the second tied at 14-14.

Alvernia opened the scoring in the second quarter with a layup by Malone, and a free throw from Kylie Bradford just over 30 seconds later extended Alvernia's lead up to three, 17-14. Bradford continued her hot hand just under a minute later with a made layup to put Alvernia up 19-14 with 8:23 to play in the half.

Alvernia's scoring then went cold over the next three minutes and Albright took advantage. The Lions quickly jumped out to a 27-19 lead with 5:40 left in the second quarter.

A layup from Williams ended Alvernia's scoreless drought and another layup from Williams brought Alvernia back within four, 27-23, with 4:16 on the clock. But, Alvernia was held to just one point the rest of the half as Albright extended its lead to 34-24.

The Lions continued to push the pace in the third quarter and maintained a double-digit lead much of the 3rd until a layup from Tyra Robinson with 1:52 left in the third quarter brought Alvernia within nine, 45-36.

A layup and a free throw on an and-one opportunity from Kramer put Alvernia within six, 45-39, but Alvernia would not get closer the rest of the quarter as Albright took a 48-39 lead into the final frame.

The Golden Wolves trailed by just seven with 6:19 to play after two made free throws by Jordan Karmonick, but Albright built its lead up to 16, 65-49, with 2:05 to play.
