Reading, Pa. (Feb. 26, 2021) - Alvernia University (1-0, 1-0) opened up its 2021 campaign with its first win over Lebanon Valley College (0-2-1, 0-2-1) in program history, taking down the Dutchmen 1-0 on Friday evening in Reading, Pa.
Both teams went scoreless through the first period as Alvernia's Julie Beaven fended off 19 shots by the Dutchmen.
11 minutes into the second period Lebanon Valley's Emma Dorf was called for slashing, putting the Golden Wolves on the power play. Alvernia needed little time to convert, taking just six seconds to score. Shae Hudec put one on net, getting assists from Morgan Moore and Jasmine Hughes on her first career goal.
Alvernia's defense, behind Beaven, held strong in the final frame to seal the 1-0 win for the Golden Wolves.
Beaven finished the night with 31 saves in net. Lebanon Valley's Shelby Guinard finished the night with 23 saves in net for the Dutchmen.
Alvernia and Lebanon Valley face off again tomorrow night at 7 PM to finish the home-and home series at Lebanon Valley's Hershey Park Stadium.
