Alvernia Pushes Past Lebanon Valley, 2-1, To Sweep Series

Hershey, Pa. (Feb. 27, 2021) - Alvernia University (2-0, 2-0) survived a late push by Lebanon Valley College (0-3-1, 0-3-1) to take the 2-1 win over the Dutchmen and complete the home-and-home series sweep on Saturday night at Hersheypark Arena.

Shae Hudec scored her second goal in as many games on a power play late in the 17th minute of the first period to give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead. Jasmine Hughes and Morgan Moore sent the puck to Hudec in the opening seconds of the power play to earn the assists. The trio also connected on Friday night on a Hudec goal.

Alvernia sent a barrage of shots on net in the second period, but Lebanon Valley's Olivia Magneson held strong in goal to come up with 17 saves and keep the game at 1-0.

Lebanon Valley came into the third period with five shots on goal in the first two minutes, but Alvernia's Julia Beaven came up with fives saves to keep the Golden Wolves with the 1-0 advantage.

The Golden Wolves then killed a penalty in the 10th minute without allowing a shot by the Dutchmen.

With just under four minutes remaining in the third period, Lebanon Valley turned the puck over in the neutral zone where Ioanna Christou took it down the ice and sent a back-handed shot into goal just inside the left post to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead.

That goal would turn out to be crucial as Lebanon Valley scored just a minute later to get back within one.

The Dutchmen got just one final shot off in the final minutes, and Beaven made the save to seal the 2-1 win for Alvernia.

Beaven finished the game with 17 saves.

Alvernia returns to the ice on Friday when the Golden Wolves host Neumann University on Friday at The Body Zone.
