Reading, Pa. (March 5, 2021) - Neumann University (2-1-1, 2-1-1) scored a goal a period to take a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (2-1, 2-1) on Friday evening in UCHC Women's Ice Hockey action at Body Zone.
Neumann got on the board just four minutes into the first period when Jeannie Padden scored on a 3-on-1 situation to put the Knights up 1-0.
Six minutes into the second period, Padden scored her second of the night on a power play goal to put Neumann up 2-0.
Alvernia answered eight minutes later after a
Ioanna Christou redirected a blocked shot by
Amber Steinhilpert to put Alvernia within one, 2-1, with just over five minutes remaining in the second period.
Neumann extended its lead to 3-1 on Padden's third goal of the night to extend its lead back to two goals at 3-1.
A minute later, Alvernia's
Abby Reisinger brought the Golden Wolves back within a goal after connecting with
Mackenzie Jackson and
Tegan Pentek.
The Golden Wolves had a power play opportunity with just under three minutes remaining, and were able to get off two shots. But, Neumann's Alex Lamplugh made two saves in net to seal the 3-2 win for the Knights.
Christou and Reisinger each finished with a goal for Alvernia, and Jackson finished with two assists.
Isabelle Hovel finished with 36 saves in net, and Steinhilpert was 17-9 on faceoffs.
Alvernia and Neumann return to the ice tomorrow to finish out their series at Neumann. Puck drops at 2 PM in Aston.
