Knights Edge Golden Wolves, 7-6

Aston, Pa. (March 6, 2021) - Neumann University (3-1-1, 3-1-1) completed the series sweep over Alvernia University (2-2, 2-2) with a wild back and forth 7-6 win over the Golden Wolves on Saturday afternoon in UCHC Women's Ice Hockey action at Neumann.

Alvernia struck first in a six goal first period, with Amber Steinhilpert netting the first goal of the game just two minutes into the period. Steinhilpert connected with Lexi Hooper to put Alvernia up 1-0.

In what would become the trend of the game, Neumann would answer with a goal just two minutes later to tie it up at 1-1.

The Golden Wolves retook the lead on a Ioanna Christou three minutes later to go back up 2-1.

The lead went back in favor of the Knights 90 seconds later when Sid Squires tied it up for Neumann at 2-2.

The scoring slowed for the next nine minutes until Alvernia first-year Lexi Hooper netted two goals in under a minute to put Alvernia up 4-2 going into the first intermission.

Neumann scored the first goal of the second period on a power play opportunity just under two minutes into the period to cut the Alvernia lead to 4-3.

Neumann's Katelyn Brown then tied the game at 4-4 with five minutes left in the second period, and she then gave the Knights the 5-4 lead on a goal just 40 seconds later.

Hooper tied it back up seconds later as the first-year forward scored to complete a hat trick and evened the game at 5-5.

The Golden Wolves then took the 6-5 lead four minutes into the third when Steinhilpert netted her second goal of the night.

Three minutes later, Neumann tied it up for the fourth time on a Kyleigh Price goal.

The Knights continued the trend of scoring quick back-to-back goals when Jeannie Padden scored what would be the eventual game-winning goal to put Neumann up 7-6.

Alvernia had a power play opportunity in the 15th minute of the period, and then the Knights held off the extra player on the ice when Alvernia pulled its goalie to hang on to the 7-6 win and complete the series sweep.

Alvernia's offense was led by Hooper, who finished the night with three goals and two assists. Goalie Isabelle Hovel made 24 saves in the loss.

The Golden Wolves return to the ice on Friday when they host Stevenson University at 4:00 PM.
