Owings Mills, Md. (March 18, 2021) - Alvernia University (1-1, 0-1) fell to Stevenson University (3-0, 1-0) 21-5 in the Golden Wolves MAC Commonwealth opener in Women's Lacrosse action on a rainy Thursday night at Stevenson.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first 11 minutes before Alvernia's
Erika Whitmoyer put Alvernia on the board with an unassisted goal.Â
Stevenson then rattled off five more to go up 12-1 with 8:10 remaining in the first half.
Whitmoyer scored her second of the night with 5:04 left, but Stevenson scored three unanswered going into the half to take a 15-2 lead into the break.
The Mustangs scored the opening three goals of the second half to go up 18-2, but Alvernia scored three straight, including back-to-back goals by
Gianna Taffo, to cut the deficit to 18-5.Â
The Golden Wolves would be held scoreless the rest of the way as the Mustangs took the 21-5 win.Â
Both Whitmoyer and Taffo finished with two goals each, and
Hannah Chadwick also scored for Alvernia.Â
Alvernia continues its MAC Commonwealth schedule on Saturday at Messiah.Â
