Grantham, Pa. (March 20, 2021) - Alvernia University (1-2, 0-2) fell to Messiah University (5-0, 2-0) 21-7 on Saturday in MAC Commonwealth Women's Lacrosse action at Messiah.

The Falcons wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 12 seconds into the game after gaining possession on the opening draw control.

Messiah would push the score to 8-0 in just over five minutes before Alvernia got on the board with a goal from Hannah Chadwick.

After the Falcons scored a man-up goal to go up 9-1, Alvernia's Gianna Taffo added Alvernia's second goal of the afternoon.

Alvernia's Erika Whitmoyer scored Alvernia's next two goals, and Alvernia's Haleigh Lackner scored with five seconds left in the half to make it 16-5 in favor of the Falcons heading into the break.

The Falcons scored the first three of the second half to go up 19-5 with just under 13 minutes remaining. 

Alvernia scored two of the next three goals to trail 20-7, but Messiah scored the final goal of the game to solidify the 21-7 victory. 

Taffo led Alvernia's offense with two goals and three assists, and Whitmoyer picked up the three goal hat trick. 

Alvernia returns to action on Wednesday with its home opener against Eastern University.
