Reading, Pa. (March 24, 2021) - After leading by just two at the half, Alvernia University (2-2, 1-2) outscored Eastern University (1-4, 0-2) 12-3 in the second half en route to a 21-10 win over the Eagles in MAC Commonwealth Women's Lacrosse action on a rainy Wednesday evening at Alvernia.
Alvernia wasted no time getting on the board, with Hannah Chadwick opening the scoring for the Golden Wolves just 20 seconds into the game. Haleigh Lackner then followed for the Golden Wolves with a goal of her own two minutes later to put Alvernia up 2-0.
Lackner then connected with Alexis Iswalt on twice in one minute as two goals from Iswalt, assisted by Lackner, put Alvernia up 4-0 after just five minutes.
A goal from Erika Whitmoyer a minute later put Alvernia up 5-0 with 23:45 left in the first half.
The Eagles then found an offensive rhythm and went on a 4-0 run over a five minute span to get within one, 5-4 with 16:11 to play in the first half.
Lackner put an end to the Eagles run with a free position goal, and Whitmoyer took the ensuing draw control down the field to score 13 seconds later. Alvernia then scored a man-down goal to extend its lead back up to four, 8-4, with 13:34 remaining in the half.
The Eagles wouldn't go down quietly, scoring two goals - including a man-up goal - over the net 90 seconds to cut Alvernia's lead back down to two, 8-6.Â
The Golden Wolves and Eagles traded goals over the final six minutes of the half to give Alvernia the 9-7 win going into the half. Â
Alvernia came out of the half firing, going on a 9-0 run over 15 minutes to jump out to an 18-7 lead and force the running clock. Six different Golden Wolves scored for Alvernia during the run.
The Golden Wolves and Eagles each scored three in the final 12 minutes as Alvenria came away with the 21-10 win.
Whitmoyer and Lackner led Alvernia's offense with seven points each. Whitmoyer picked her seven up with six goals and an assist, and Lacker finished with three goals and four assists.Â
Kasey Fox picked up her first career win in net for Alvernia, making six saves.
Alvernia continues its MAC Commonwealth season on Saturday morning with a home game against Lebanon Valley at 10 AM.
