Softball Sweeps Lebanon Valley

Annville, Pa. (March 28, 2021) - Alvernia University (9-1, 9-1) swept Lebanon Valley College (3-6, 3-6) on Saturday in MAC Commonwealth softball action at Lebanon Valley.

Alvernia took game one 10-2 in six innings and took game two 6-2.

In game one of the afternoon, Alvernia trailed Lebanon Valley 1-0 after two innings, and Alvernia didn't score its first run of the game until the fourth.

In the top of the fourth, Alvernia tied it up at 1-1 with a Paige Paciollia tripling to right field to bring in Tara Tumasz.

Alvernia then blew it open in the top of the fifth, scoring nine to take the 10-2 lead. Riley Shields hit a two run double down the left field line and Tumasz followed that with a bases loaded walk. Kerstin Koenig then hit a two run single to right, and Paciolla followed that with an RBI single to left. With the bases once again loaded, Reinert hit a two run double to center to put Alvernia up 9-1. Devan Hudson capped off the inning with an RBI single through the right side.

The Dutchmen would get one back in their half of the fifth, but that would not be enough as Alvernia took the 7-2 first game win.

Shields got the win in the circle with four strikeouts.

In game two of the afternoon, Alvernia took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth off a Tumasz triple and an Ally Kirschner single.

Lebanon Valley got two back though in the bottom of the fourth on a single to the outfield  that scored two.

Alvernia would extend its lead in the top of the sixth, scoring a run on a wild pitch and two runs on an Alyssa Acker single.

Lebanon Valley wouldn't score again as Alvernia came away with the 6-2 second game win.

Ally Decker went the distance for Alvernia in the circle, striking out five and giving up five hits in the win.

Alvernia returns to action on Monday to finish off its series with Lebanon Valley.
