Golden Wolves Close Out Regular Season With 18-7 Win Over DeSales

Reading, Pa. (April 23, 2021) - Alvernia University (4-9) jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back en route to an 18-7 win over DeSales University (3-7) on Friday night in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves opened the game with a goal from Hannah Chadwick off of Alvernia's first possession of the game to put Alvernia up 1-0 20 seconds in. Natalie Frantz then took Alvernia's second possession right down the field and scored to put Alvernia up 2-0 less than a minute into the action.

Alvernia would net seven goals over the next 12 minutes to put Alvernia up 9-0. Erika Whitmoyer (2), Gianna Taffo (2) and Haleigh Lackner (3) each found the net for Alvernia to add to its lead. 

DeSales would score its first with 16:02 left in the half, but Alvernia would add on four more goals over the eight minutes to extend its lead 13-1. Whitmoyer and Chadwick each scored goals on Alvernia's quick 4-0 run.

DeSales would score the final two games of the half to make it 13-3 going into the break.

Taffo and Whitmoyer each scored a goal to open the half and put Alvernia up 15-3. 

The two teams would trade goals the rest of the way as Alvernia came out on top 18-7.

Whitmoyer led Alvernia's offense with six goals and three assists, and Lackner finished with four goals and two assists.

Kasey Fox and Kirsten Lake split time in net and combined for seven saves.

Alvernia's regular season ended with tonight's win over DeSales. The Golden Wolves enter the 2021 MAC Championships as the #8 seed and will head to #1 Messiah University for the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
