Glenside, Pa. (April 25, 2021) - Alvernia University (20-6) swept Arcadia University (18-10) in a Sunday doubleheader to close out the regular season in non-conference softball action at Arcadia. 

Alvernia took game one of the afternoon 1-0, and took game two 4-3.

Alvernia scored what would be its only run of the first game in the top of the 1st. Sarah Reinert opened the game with a single down the left field line, and then stole second on Maggie Loomis's at bat. After advancing to third on a fly ball by Riley Shields to center field, Reinert came around to score on an Alyssa Acker single to center field. 

Arcadia would get the game-tying run in scoring position five times throughout the game, but would be unable to convert as Alvernia took the 1-0 win. 

Shields picked up her 11th win of the season in the circle with the game one win. She becomes the first known Alvernia pitcher to go undefeated through a regular season. 

Alvernia again used the first inning to jump out to an early lead in game two. The Golden Wolves scored four runs on just one hit in the top of the first. Alvernia capitalized on two errors by the Knights to take the 4-0 lead. 

The Knights got two back in the bottom of the fifth to cut Alvernia's lead in half.

Arcadia then cut the lead down to one, 4-3, on an RBI single to left field.

The Knights had the game tying run on second in the bottom of the seventh, but Alvernia held off the threat for the 4-3 win.

Ally Decker picked up the win in the circle, going seven innings and striking out three.

Paige Paciolla led Alvernia with two hits in game two.

The sweep today concluded Alvernia's regular season. The Golden Wolves are the #1 seed going into the MAC Commonwealth playoff. They will host #8 Hood College starting with a doubleheader on Saturday. The teams will then play an if-necessary game on Sunday to close the best of three series.
