Reading, Pa. (May 4, 2021) - #3 Alvernia University defeated #6 Hood College 5-0 in the MAC Commonwealth Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves swept doubles action with the duos of Leah Bouchard/Laura Covely, Leah Kemper/Lily Summerson, and Rachel Rineer/Maria Figurelli all picking up wins. Kemper/Summerson took #2 doubles 8-2, and Rineer/Figurelli took #3 doubles 8-4. Hood pushed Bouchard/Covely to an 8-7 tiebreaker, but Alvernia took the tiebreaker 7-5.

With playoff matches only being played until a team clinches the match with five points, Alvernia would need just two points in singles play. Alvernia would get those two points at #4 and #5 singles. Summerson took #4 singles 6-1, 6-1 and Elizabeth Danovich took #5 singles 6-1, 6-2.

With the win, Alvernia advances to the semifinals. The Golden Wolves will travel to #2 Lebanon Valley on Thursday.
