Men's Soccer Announces 2021 Schedule

2021 Men's Soccer Schedule

Reading, Pa. (July 1, 2021) - Alvernia University Men’s Soccer announced on Friday its schedule for the upcoming 2021 fall season with its first game set for Wednesday, September 1.

After the traditional 2020 season was cancelled last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Alvernia competed in four exhibition games this past spring. September 1, when Alvernia hosts Marymount for the season opener, the Golden Wolves will take the field for the first countable game since November 2nd, 2019. The Golden Wolves are coming off a 5-12-3 in 2019. Alvernia was 4-3-1 in MAC Commonwealth play, and narrowly missed a MAC Commonwealth postseason berth.

Following their home opener on September 1st, the Golden Wolves head on the road for three games. Alvernia will head to Lancaster Bible on September 3rd, followed by a game at Penn State Harrisburg on September 4th as part of the Lancaster Bible and Penn State Harrisburg Tournament. Alvernia closes out its three game road series on September 8th at Rutgers Camden.

Alvernia returns home on September 11th to co-host a tournament with Albright College. As part of the tournament, Alvernia will host Arcadia on the 11th and Penn State Berks on September 12th.

Alvernia then returns to the road for its annual Kicks for Cancer game at Elizabethtown College on September 15th.

The Golden Wolves then host Eastern Mennonite College on September 18th before heading back on the road for another three-game road trip. Alvernia heads to Susquehanna on September 21st followed by Montclair State on September 26th. Alvernia closes out its road series on September 29th at Cabrini.

Alvernia opens up MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday, October 2nd when Alvernia hosts Widener University.

The Golden Wolves then head to Eastern University for a first-time MAC Commonwealth matchup with the Eagles on October 5th. The Eagles joined the MAC Commonwealth in the Fall of 2020 after switching over from the MAC Freedom. Eastern won the MAC Freedom Championship four of the last five years. The Golden Wolves and Eagles are very familiar with each other, facing off 24 times in program history. Eastern holds the advantage with 16 wins over Alvernia. They most recently met in 2109, where the two teams played to a 1-1 tie.

Alvernia then hosts York College in another first-time MAC Commonwealth matchup on Saturday, October 9th. York joined the MAC Commonwealth in the Fall of 2020 after leaving the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The Golden Wolves and the Spartans have faced each other six times in the past. Alvernia has never won against the Spartans, but they have tied them twice. The game is the finale of Homecoming and Family weekend.

Alvernia then heads to Messiah on October 13th to take on the reigning MAC Commonwealth champions.

The Golden Wolves return home on October 19th to host Lebanon Valley College and then head to Stevenson University on October 23rd.

Alvernia then heads to Albright College on October 27th before returning home for the regular season finale against Hood College on October 30th.

Alvernia is entering the season with a 38 man roster, including 13 players that saw action in 2019.
