Reading, Pa. (September 12, 2021) - For the second night in a row a goal in the opening minutes would prove to be enough as Alvernia University (3-0) came away with a 1-0 win over Penn State Berks (0-3-1) on Sunday evening in non-conference action at Alvernia.

Following a foul by Penn State Berks after just one minute and two seconds of action, Alvernia was awarded a free kick. Graduate Student Ryan Kuster was selected to take the kick for the Golden Wolves. Kuster sent the kick at net and the Berks keeper dove with the ball, but Kuster's kick snuck inside the right post out of the reach of the keeper to put Alvernia up 1-0.

Just 24 hours prior, Alvernia would score its only goal of the game 14 seconds into the action en route to a 1-0 win over Arcadia University. 

Alvernia would maintain control the rest of the way, with the Lions' best look at tying the game coming in the final minutes. With just over three minutes remaining, PSU's Ryan Curnew had a solid look at goal, but his attempt went just wide to the right. 

Alvernia goalie Ben Solsky picked up his second shutout win in as many days with four saves in net.

With the win, Alvernia goes 3-0 to start a season for the first time in program history. Alvernia went 4-0-2 in 2012 to open the season, but Alvernia tied Eastern University 3-3 in the third game of the season.

The Golden Wolves return to action on Wednesday at Elizabethtown College for the annual Kicks for Cancer game.
