Reading Pa. (Sept 16, 2021)- Alvernia University (2-6) secured its second win of the season as the Golden Wolves won three straight sets over Rosemont College (1-4) on Thursday night, 3-0.
The Golden Wolves started out strong as they fought a hard first set. As both teams battled back and forth, it was 20-19 Rosemont late into the first set. However, a strong run by Alvernia would lead the way and a kill from
Elizabeth Gillespie would spark a 6-0 run that would propel the Golden Wolves to a 25- 20 victory in the first set.
The second set would be all Alvernia as it would continue its dominant run. It was a team effort from the Golden Wolves as a kill by
Olivia Frutiger would give them the set, 25-17.
The Ravens would have a strong start to the third set, quickly jumping out to a four-point lead. However, a kill by
Rachel Sipling off of a pass from
Patricia Falar would halt the Ravens' run and give Alvernia the boost it needed. The Golden Wolves would quickly take control as they would go on a 7-0 run. Alvernia would finish on a 9-1 run as
Ariyanna Fisher picked up two kills to end the set 25-16 and winning the match, 3-0.
Sipling led the night with ten kills. Frutiger tallied five kills and five digs with
Deanna Klunk dishing out seven assists.
Alvernia returns to action this Saturday during the Alvernia University tri-match as they face off against Cedar Crest and Gwynedd Mercy.
