Potthoff Powers Alvernia Past Stockton

Reading, Pa. (September 21, 2021) - A goal by Madison Potthoff was all the Golden Wolves needed as Alvernia University (4-3) defeated Stockton University (6-2) 1-0 on Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The first quarter saw little action, with Alvernia getting off two shots and maintaining possession for the majority of the quarter. Stockton would not get a shot off in the first frame.

Action picked up slightly in the second quarter, with Stockton getting off its first shot of the game. Alvernia also got a look on net, with Potthoff having a man-up opportunity, but her shot was stopped by Stockton keeper Alley Harris.

Alvernia and Stockton went into the half locked at 0-0.

Just over three minutes into the second half, Alvernia was granted a corner opportunity. Felicia Getz inserted the corner to Potthoff, who was stationed at the top left of the circle. Potthoff lofted a perfect shot over the Osprey defense and into net to put Alvernia up 1-0.

Stockton started applying steady pressure in the final frame, taking three corner opportunities and firing off two shots in the first seven minutes of the quarter.

The Osprey pulled their goalie and put an extra field player into the mix with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. The extra man would not be enough as Stockton's only shot opportunity on goal in the final minutes was blocked by Alvernia's Hannah Wolfe

Alvernia nearly added an empty net goal, but the Osprey defense was able to get a stick on it and knock it wide as Alvernia came away with the 1-0 win.

Wolfe would finish the night with three saves and improve to 4-0 in net on the season.
