Reading Pa. (Sept. 21, 2021) - After Goucher College (3-3) tied it up 2-2 late in the second half, Alvernia University (3-3) scored the game-winner in the 78th minute as the Golden Wolves came away with the 3-2 win on Tuesday night in non-conference soccer action at Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves started strong applying early offensive pressure.
Kyla Gibson sent a shot wide right in the opening minutes of the contest. Alvernia kept up its pace, with
Eden Jahn netting Alvernia's first goal of the game off a headed ball on a corner served in by
Jenna Wentling.
Alvernia netted its second of the night when Wentling scored one of her own off a direct kick in the 35th minute.
The Golden Wolves would go into the half with the lead, 2-0.
Goucher rallied in the second half, tallying its first goal of the contest in the 59th minute. The Gophers tied the contest in the 77th minute off of a deep shot outside the box.
Alvernia did not need much time to answer though, as
Angelica Key netted what would be the game-winning goal off a quick pass by
Heather Perna in the 78th minute.
The Gophers did not put a shot on goal in the final 11 minutes as Alvernia won its third straight, 3-2.
Brynn Bock and
Lily Sankey split time in the net, totaling six saves.
Women's Soccer returns to action this Saturday on the road against Marywood University.
