Montclair State Blanks Alvernia, 4-0

BOX SCORE Montclair, NJ (September 26, 2021) - Montclair State (8-1-1) scored two goals a half en route to a 4-0 win over Alvernia University (5-2) on Sunday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Montclair State.

Midway through the fourth minute, Alvernia keeper Ben Solsky was called for a foul against a Red Hawk in the box. Montclair was awarded a penalty kick off the foul. Montclair's Amar Lukovic took the PK for Montclair State and sent it to the right side of the goal. Solsky dove to the right as well, but the shot was able to sneak in between Solsky and the right post to put Montclair State up 1-0.

Just four minutes later, Montclair doubled its lead with a goal in the 8th minute. Janbi Kaghado appeared to have lost control of the ball as he was dribbling towards goal, but Montclair's Josiah Crawford was right there to pick up the ball and fire a quick shot on net to put the Red Hawks up 2-0.

The Golden Wolves would not get a shot on goal in the first half as the Red Hawks took their 2-0 lead into the break.

Just over 11 minutes into the second half, Montclair State added to its lead when Lukovic sent a high-arching shot over the reach of Solsky and into goal to score his second of the night and give the Red Hawks a 3-0 advantage.

What would be Alvernia's only shot on goal came in the 62 minute when Nick Denlinger sent a shot in towards the lower left corner, by Montclair keeper Shane Keenan made the save to preserve the shutout for the Red Hawks.

Early in the 79th minute, Montclair State took the 4-0 lead after Gene Carlo Altamirano shot a header off the crossbar, collected his own rebound, and fired a quick shot past Solsky into the bottom left of the goal.

The Golden Wolves were out shot 22-3. Solsky finished the night with two saves.

With the shutout, Montclair State recorded its fourth consecutive shutout victory.

Alvernia looks to bounce back on Wednesday at Cabrini.
