Moravian Edges Alvernia, 5-4

Bethlehem, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2021) - Alvernia University (1-2) fell to Moravian University (1-0) in a close 5-4 decision on Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Moravian.

The Golden Wolves fell to 2-1 after doubles action with the duos of Kevin Angeles/Michael Brophy and Dylan Boltz/Jayden Lewis dropping #1 and #3 doubles 8-6 and 8-2, respectively. Alvernia picked up a point at #2 doubles with Lucas Berger and Thomas Figurelli coming away with an 8-4 win. 

In singles action, Brophy tied the match up at 2-2 after taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at #1 singles. The Greyhounds retook the lead, 3-2, at #6 singles with Dylan Boltz falling 6-2, 6-1.

The Greyhounds then took a 4-2 advantage after securing a 6-2, 6-4 win at #4 singles over Angeles. Alvernia got one back, 4-3, after Lewis took a 6-3, 6-1 win at #3 singles. 

Moravian's match-clinching point came at #2 singles with Berger falling in a tiebreaker set, 6-4, 6-7, 0-6 to go up 5-3.

Alvernia secured a fourth point at #5 singles with Figurelli winning in a tiebreaker set, but it would not be enough as Alvernia fell 5-4.

The Golden Wolves close out their fall season on Monday, October 4th at PSU Berks.
