Reading, Pa. (Sept. 29, 2021) - #11 Rowan University used an impressive offense push and a second half shutout to secure an 8-2 win over Alvernia University on Wednesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The Profs fired off a barrage of 31 total shots, 27 of which were on goal, to score two goals a quarter in the 8-2 win.

Rowan needed just under three minutes to get on the board, with Julia Patrone putting the Profs up 1-0 early. 

Rowan went on to score three more goals over the next 19 minutes to take a 4-0 lead.

Alvernia began chipping away over the final five minutes of the first half to cut Rowan's lead in half.

Madison Potthoff scored her first goal of the game in the 26th minute to make it 4-1 in favor of Rowan. Potthoff scored her second goal just over four minute later with 20 seconds left in the half to cut Rowan's lead down to 4-2. Both of Potthoff's goals came off of succesful corner attempts by Alvernia. 

Any momentum Alvernia picked up at the end of the first half was taken away as Rowan shut down the Golden Wolves in the second half. Rowan allowed just one shot by Alvernia over the final 30 minutes. With the defense locking down Alvernia, Rowan went on to score four unanswered goals in the second half en route to the 8-2 win.

Alvernia's Lexi Boettcher and Hannah Wolfe split time in net and combined for 17 saves.

The Golden Wolves return to MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday at Hood College.
