Allentown, Pa. (Sept. 3, 2021) – Cedar Crest (1-0) scored a goal in each half to earn the 2-1 win over Alvernia University (0-1) on Friday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Cedar Crest.
The Golden Wolves opened up the scoring with a quick goal in the 4th minute with
Eden Jahn taking advantage of a pass from
Kyla Gibson and beating Cedar Crest keeper Lauren Makely.
Alvernia would keep up the pressure with
Angelica Key narrowly missing the net on a shot that would have extended the lead to two.
Early in the 15th minute, the Falcons would net their first goal of the contest off of a corner kick with Isabella Gusman coming off of an assist from Olivia Kelly. The teams would go into the half-even, 1-1.
Just two minutes into the second half, Cedar Crest would take their first lead of the night with Adrianna Tennis scoring the go-ahead goal.
Alvernia tried to rally late in the 71st minute with a corner but was unable to capitalize. Cedar Crest kept up the pressure and was able to fend off the Golden Wolves' comeback hopes as the Falcons took the 2-1 win.
Lily Sankey and
Katelyn Dreibelbis split time in net for Alvernia, making a total of six saves.
Alvernia returns to action on Sunday for a road game against FDU-Florham.
